In this role you will oversee the daily operations, logistics and administration of the animal care program, and ensures that the facility meets high standards of quality, is in compliance with best practices, SOPs, university policies, and CCAC guidelines governing the care and use of animals in research. You will be responsible for client service, facility inspections, project coordination, safety programs and compliance. You will ensure that all animals are being treated humanely and in accordance with the Canadian Council for Animal Care (CCAC), the Animals for Research Act, Public Health, Biosafety and Occupational Health Guidelines, as well as local and institutional regulations and Animal Care Committee guidelines and SOP’s. You will oversee the budget and purchasing of routine and capital equipment items, management of facility renovations and building projects, facility security systems and Capital Asset Management duties. You will coordinate day to day service levels and discrepancies with the Veterinarian and Facilities Services. You will directly manage and provide direction to facility employees and participates in their hiring, training and review and provides daily support to the Director, Veterinary Services and liaises with Sr. Policy Advisor, Research Ethics as required. You will play a key role in ensuring the facilities and program are in compliance and exceeds expectations of outside organizations making assessments of the program including for CCAC accreditation and Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (OMA&RA) visits. You must know the guiding principles behind federal, provincial and local regulations and university policies as they relate to animal care and welfare. You will be primarily responsible for staff that directly oversees animal care and welfare along with routine duties in the facilities.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:

 

Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline. Registered Veterinary Technician, Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (RLAT). You will also bring 5 Years of related experience with CCAC and Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
