TCP has an immediate opening for a permanent full-time Supervisor, Technical Services.  Reporting to the Manager, Facility Operations and as a key member of the Facility Operations Team, the incumbent will provide direct supervision, leadership and support to the Technical Services personnel.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to, staff scheduling; scheduling of technical assistance and support; provide training for technical reassignment & development purposes; ensuring that the needs of Investigators and end-users are met; participate in the process of importing & exporting of animals; participate in the Quality Assurance and Health Surveillance program; participate as a member of the Institutional Animal Care Committee.  The Supervisor, Technical Services will provide leadership in effecting change and improving quality of service; ensuring the health and welfare of the mice and will work with a specialized colony management database.  Other responsibilities include: working cooperatively with scientific staff and fellow team members and maintaining detailed records.  The work is conducted in a highly regulated environment according to standard operating procedures.

The successful candidate must be a graduate of a CVMA or OAVT-accredited Veterinary Technician program or have a university degree in biological sciences combined with relevant experience in laboratory animal science. CALAS certification at RLAT or RMLAT level is required.  The candidate must exhibit strong technical and surgical skills with a minimum of 5 years of previous experience in providing high quality technical support to researchers. Prior experience in a supervisory role is preferred.  Must have a strong background in animal husbandry and capable of maintaining mutant colonies of mice.  Strong knowledge of CCAC guidelines, OMAFRA regulations, Canadian Biosafety Guidelines and Global Harmonized System (WHMIS) is required.  Applicants require excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), a strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal & organizational skills with an exceptional level to detail and be able to maintain a professional attitude and the ability to work and contribute to a team environment.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word; Excel; Powerpoint; Access) is required.  Experience with Post Approval Monitoring programs and previous Animal Care Committee membership, are an asset.
Upon employment, the incumbent must be able to obtain a criminal record check clearance letter from Toronto Police Services.
